MKTG
25010 Course Description
|
This version of MKTG 25010 Principles of Marketing is offered
in both a Remote format and as a Web-based class. The elements of this
format are described below:
CONTENT
In the COVID-19 era,
the class
content is taught "live," twice a week, from my home office.
The Lecture is posted online twice a week on the same schedule as the Remote Class. It is available from the class
Blackboard website in a "platform-free" version using Camtasia and as a
.mp4 video from Kent's Kaltura platform.
These files are available from a links
page on the class Blackboard website.
Additionally,
two audio versions of the lecture are available. One
is a
.wma file (Windows Media Audio) and the other a .mp3 audio
file posted on Kent's Kaltura platform (https://video.kent.edu/).
Students can listen to the
lecture on their computer or download it to listen on an iPod or
similar device.
Class Lecture Notes are available for download prior to the lecture and
contain an outline format of the lecture material, to be completed by
the students as they view (or listen to) the class.
Lecture are available "24-7" once uploaded.
TESTING
Mini-tests
For 13 weeks of the 15 week
semester students take "weekly mini-tests" (in Summer session there are
8 mini-tests). These online,
open book, open notes mini-tests can taken
anytime during the week in which they are open, from any computer the
student can access. The tests cover the week's lecture
material
and textbook material. Each 10-item test
draws questions
randomly, from the test bank for that exam. The mini-tests
are INDIVIDUAL
timed tests, and students have 15 minutes to complete their attempt.
Students are advised to study both the lecture material and
the
textbook content for the mini-tests.

Students can take each mini-test as many as 5
times during the time in which mini-test is open. The BEST score is recorded.
Students can (and should) earn 100% on
these
mini-tests. These 13 mini-tests (8 in the Summer) count for 50%
of the final
class
grade.
Once each mini-test closes the best grade attempt is
recorded. At that time, the mini-test opens as a Review Test.
Students can return to the mini-test and practice for the
Midterm and the Final Exam.
PROCTORED
TESTING for MKTG 25010
The Midterm and
the Final Exam are Proctored Exams.
Students must have a Picture ID to take the exams, and
international students may want to have two picture IDs. We
prefer KSU Student ID's (you can get one in the Student Center), but a
driver's license or passport will also work.
- Students MUST
take the Midterm from their own computer while being proctored online
by Proctorio (an online proctoring service). There is no fee for this
service and no advanced scheduling is needed. Proctorio does have
minimum
technical requirements.
Students can go to https://proctorio.docsend.com/view/bj9xymx to
determine if their computer will support online proctoring.
Midterm Examinations
The two Midterm Exams are a Proctored Tests. Each counts for 17% of
the course grade. They cover both the Lectures associated textbook material.
They are 50-item, open-book, open notes, tests with an 80 minute time limit
(student with SAS accommodations and international student for whom
English is a second language have an Extended Time for the test).
International students can bring a hard copy translation dictionary.
The Midterm Exam questions are drawn from the SAME question
pool
that is used for the weekly mini-tests (without any of the "Marketing
in the News" questions).
Final Examination
The Final Exam is a Proctored Test. It counts for 16% of the
course grade. This is a
50 item, open-book, open notes, test with an 80 minute time limit
(student with SAS accommodations and international student for whom
English is a second language have an Extended Time for the test).
International students can bring a hard copy translation dictionary.
The final will cover lecture material from the second Midterm Exam to the
end of the class, and all textbook material after the second Midterm Exam to
the end of Chapter 20.
The 50 items are drawn from the SAME test bank
as the weekly
mini-tests (without any of the "Marketing in the News"
questions). For the Final Exam, students can also use a
calculator.
Students are NOT PERMITTED to have copies of the weekly mini-test
questions or answers with them for the Midterms or the Final Exam.
THE
TECHNOLOGY
For this course to work, you will need access
to a computer with high speed internet access.
Much of the class relies on KSU’s Blackboard
Learn course management system. Blackboard
will work on both PC’s and MAC’s.
You should be able to log into KSU’s Kent's
Blackboard Learn site from Flashline by clicking on the "Blackboard" link at the top of the page.
Another good "check" to
determine whether this
approach will work for you is to view one of the past archives. Click on http://www.personal.kent.edu/~lmarks/MKTG25010/hybridcourse.html and
choose a lecture and a format.
The Lecture should load and you can click on the "play
arrow" to begin the video on
your computer. If your home computer does
not allow you to see this file, it may be possible for you to view it
from a library or a campus near you. If none of those work
for you, then you are not a good candidate for the class.
ATTENDANCE
Given the online nature of the class attendance is not taken.
However, students are expected to keep up with the Lectures and
to complete the weekly tests, and other exams before their posted
deadlines.
WARNINGS
This is a "real" class. Students MUST keep up with the lectures and the text book readings.
This is NOT a self-paced class. It is NOT an easy
class. It DOES require that online students be DISCIPLINED in
their course work. If you will not have the time to view the lectures each week and to read the text book and take the
mini-tests before the deadline, please do NOT register for the class.
