HOW WE WILL CONTACT EACH OTHER:
We will all be using our kent emails (kent.edu) to contact each other, as well as the class discussion page.
About emails...
1. kent.edu as an email address: Be sure to use your kent.edu email address when emailing me, otherwise it is likely to get stuck in the university's spam filter. Everybody registered for a course at KSU has one, so even if you think you don't, you really do. If you think you don't, ask me and I will locate the address for you. Also, please put Earth History in the email subject line, so I will easily identify it as an email from someone in the course. The university requests that instructors communicate grade-related information in the kent.edu email system only, so that is how I will be contacting you with information like that.
2. Response Times from me: I also teach other lectures and labs, and do lab research during the day, so do not expect an immediate email response-it may be several hours or even a day before I can get back to you. Generally, I will always try to respond as soon as possible, and that can be relatively fast if I am also online when you email. On weekends, I usually check email once each day, whereas during the week, I check alot.
3. Response Times from you: It is important to frequently check your kent.edu email during the week, or have it forwarded to your more commonly-used email address, so that you don't miss important information. I will expect to hear from you within about 48 hours of sending an email.
About the discussion page...
The Discussion Page is there so that when somebody has a content question or technical question, it can be submitted there and the answer can be seen by all. It doesn't take the place of a question in a classroom, but it comes close. It is also there to alert me and the distance learning technical manager that there is a glitch or something that needs to be fixed.
