What kind of course is Earth and Life Through Time, Anyway?

Earth and Life Through Time is a course in Historical Geology.  It is a standard course in the Geological Sciences, and covers the geologic history of the earth, including the fossil record, the changing position of the continents through time, evolutionary change of life on Earth, and the inter-related processes of life on the planet with the physical and chemical processes of the earth itself.  It also explores geologic methods such as correlation, stratigraphic principles, and relative and radiometric dating.  This course differs from GEOL 11040 How the Earth Works, which focuses on the physical processes of the earth, including rock and mineral formation, volcanoes, earthquakes, Earth's interior, and Earth's surface processes such as weathering, erosion, and mountain building.
