On 26 November, 1999, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake off the coast of Vanuatu generated a tsunami that ran up more than 5 m on nearby islands, and destroyed a village. Andy joined an International Tsunami Survey Team led by Costas Synolakis to study the sediments deposited by the waves.
