Kent State operates a field camp for five weeks every summer in Spearfish, SD. The first four weeks of camp involve structural and metamorphic mapping projects in the nearby Black Hills; the final week is a field trip down the Yellowstone hotspot trace from the modern location, through Island Park, and ending at Craters of the Moon. We return via Grand Teton to better understand the beginnings of the Basin and Range. During the field trip, students are responsible for creating and giving the lectures at each stop, with the help of the instructor. We are always happy to have people from other universities attend--schools in the National Student Exchange can generally avoid out-of-state fees. |
