Go Back to Step 6: Cinerary Urns Return to the Project Overview Move on to Step 6: Ossuaries
Inhumation burials can either use a cinerary urn or an ossuary. A sarcophagus is a container in which the body of the deceased is placed intact.
Sarcophagi can be simple stone, simple marble, marble with design, or marble with ornate design.
You can also add a reclining portrait statue in marble to the lid for an additional 90,000 sestertii (120,000 for a pair of people).
Usually, the sarcophagus would include the epitaph of the deceased (which replaces the epitaph below the niche in the columbarium of the cremation burials).
