   The book has received The 2006 Albert Castel Book Award.   This award is made on a biennial basis to the author of the best recent book on the Civil War in the Western Theater.  The adjudication committee is made up of members of the Kalamazoo Civil War Round Table.  The award is named in honor of Dr. Albert Castel, Professor emeritus of History at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

   The book has received The Oliver Hazard Perry Award for 2004 from the Ohio Genealogical Society.   Presentation of the honor was made April 16, 2005.

       The Kent State Press has nominated the book for the other following awards.
