This
set dance is from County Cork, Ireland.
Bar
counts (measures of music) for dance patterns are shown in bold.
The total bar count for each Figure includes an
eight-bar introduction of music.
Dance
a lively, ordinary polka step (down-2-3)
for Figures 1 through 4;
for Figure 5, dance an
ordinary hornpipe (lift-2-3-4 and
step-step-step-step for doubling).
Throughout
the set, gents dance forward first on the left foot and ladies dance
forward first on the right
foot.
Hop quarterhouse: in waltz hold facing one another, couples lightly jump (or lift
then drop heels) and
lift/kick the outside foot (gents right, ladys left) toward the center1;
dance in-place1; dance
to the next position on the right, turning clockwise once2;
repeat the four-bar pattern
through each next right position to home.
Skip-square: in waltz hold, back-the-lady to the opposite-right
corner dancing a
1-2, 1-2 kick/turn pattern2; back-the-gent
to the next right corner dancing a 1-2,
123 pattern2;
house to home4.
Chain: ladies begin right-hand-to-right-hand in the
center (waist-level); gents take a
waist-level left-hand or
forearm hold and follow the ladies as they
dance anticlockwise
around them (no arch); ladies
also chain right-hand-to-right-hand when returning home.
