This non-progressive, 16-bar two-hand is danced in sweetheart hold (across the shoulders). |
The dance is often danced in a country-western setting. |
A tune other than the Cotton-Eyed Joe is sometimes played for dancing. Musicians
often |
increase the speed of the music during the final
portion of the music. |
Couples
take positions around the perimeter of the dance floor with gents having their |
left side toward the center;
the line of
dance is anticlockwise. The dance may also |
be danced
free in the available space while others are dancing another two-hand dance. |
Dance a
gentle kick and an ordinary polka step (down-2-3). |
Gents dance forward on the left foot
and ladies begin forward on the right foot. |
Bar counts (quantities of measures) for patterns are
shown in bold. |
Documentation is based upon a
video workshop taught by Allen Meyers. Other |
versions
are danced. |
