Dance in waltz hold. | |
An eight-bar introduction of music is often played for the sixteen-bar,
non-progressive pattern.
Couples take positions around the perimeter of the dance floor with gents facing
forward (anticlockwise) and ladies facing backward (clockwise) in
the line of dance (lod).
The pattern is also danced free; that is, dance in the available space as other dancers
dance either the same or another waltz pattern.
Gents dance forward on the left foot and ladies dance forward on the right foot.
Steps: Part of the sixteen-bar, pattern is danced with a HESITATION STEP; step in
the lod with the leading-foot then bring the trailing-foot beside the leading-foot
with a TAP-PAUSE; weight is only partially transferred to the tapping-foot during
the pause; step in the lod with the pausing-foot then bring the trailing-foot beside
the leading foot with another tap-pause.
Bar counts (quantities of measures) for patterns are shown in bold.
Documentation is based upon a video workshop led by Pat Murphy.
