This set comes from County Laois, Ireland. All Figures except the final one are danced
in half sets (two couples).
First Couple begins each Figure with the partners' backs to the music. The First Top
Couple of Figure Five also begin with backs to the music.
Gents dance forward on the left foot and ladies begin forward on the right foot.
Multiple styles (patterns) of battering are danced in Figure 2; only two varieties
are briefly described here. 1. While simultaneously tapping the heel of the leading
foot, batter heel-toe three times with the other foot (weight remains on the leading
foot only until the final heel-toe); then stamp the leading foot in place or slightly
forward. 2. Dance down on the leading foot; batter heel-toe then down on the
non-leading foot (change weight); down on the leading foot; down on the
non-leading foot. | |
Bar counts for dance patterns are shown in bold.
The total bar count for each Figure includes an eight-bar introduction of music.
Chain: ladies give right hands at waist-height to one another in the center then left
hands to the opposite gent (who has danced into his partner's place); couples
form an arch and the lady dances under the arch and around the gent as he
(dancing slightly forward) continues to face into the set; ladies do not chain
when dancing to-place beside their original partner.
Swing in ceili hold. | |
