Spring 2002 Health &
Learning
Following the Evaluation Reports are all
of the comments I received from the students in each of the sections. I have
copied those comments exactly as they appeared on the evaluation sheets because
I believe it is important to view these comments in the exact way they were
given. No attempts were made to correct any aspect of these statements (ie Lori → Laurie, professor → instructor, etc...).
Additional Comments:
Aspects
of this course that were especially successful?
-I liked the open communication in the
classroom. The class was student centered.
-applying our knowledge with posters and
group work. This is the 1st class I’ve ever taken that I didn’t need
to “cram” for the test because I
already knew the information.
-working as groups to go over class
activities.
-CPR/1st Aid Certification,
articles
-I liked that this course did involve
independent thinking
-exceptional teacher A+ for the course
-I learned a lot of content that I will
be able to put into practice
-the statistics and material
-the course was excellent and I think
anyone that works with children should take it. It prepares us as teachers to be ready for students
issues.
-health ed. Perspective
-critical & practical thinking
Aspects
of this course that need to be improved?
-need more assignments. Maybe a questionnaire
or quiz to go along with articles to be sure the material is clearly understood. Articles should be
printed and handed out because some students have limited access to the internet.
-it really sucked having to print off
the articles. They take forever to download and print, and it’s expensive!
Maybe you could printout one copy and
make copies of it and pass the out instead.
-none
-internalize, don’t stick with old
syllabus
Any comments about class management (syllabus, examinations,
class cancellations, office hours, etc.)?
-very good syllabus
-we did get out
of class early frequently – maybe we could have covered more, added some new
topics? The class was so interesting
that I actually wanted to stay for the entire hour/fifteen.
Additional
comments on the instructor or the course?
-Laurie Wagner did a wonderful job in
teaching this course. She had a vast amount of knowledge on each topic & was passionate about the
subject content. I enjoyed learning from her & I learned a great deal.
-I was very disappointed that you let
Ross dominate the classroom discussion. Every single day I hated coming to this class only to hear his incoherent babbling.
His presence ruined the learning environment.
-Laurie was personable, friendly, and
knowledgeable – an ideal instructor for this course.
-very knowledgeable
about material. Very respectful of everyone in the class
-she did a wonderful job of
teaching. Handled discussions very well, allowed everyone to talk, dealt with difficult student extremely well. I really
admire her.
-very intelligent instructor! She knows
her stuff!
-you did an
excellent job this semester – I learned a great deal! J
-I feel Laurie handled the class very
well. Some students were rather difficult with her but she respected everyone & everyone’s comments.
-Lori Wagner did an excellent job
teaching this course. She presented all the information in a manner we could all understand and she tried to develop
activities that correlated with the material, to help us better understand it visually.
-Mrs. Wagner is a great
instructor!
-L. Wagner did a great job with this
class. I learned a lot from her!
-she didn’t make me (us) feel like the
little man, there was always room for our opinion
-I would recommend this class to people.
She taught me a lot about how to deal with certain matters in the school.
-she made the class fun and interesting
-promising
-Laurie Wagner is an excellent
instructor who understands the importance of making students think. Many
of us have had profs.
Who do not make us do so, and a few of my classmates, I feel, were not prepared
for her awesome teaching style.
