You can do it if you try !!
If you wish to succeed in this course
You have already invested a lot of money into this course. Your hopes are
high to graduate with good grades. This is my wish for you too. I have high
expectations for you! These include:
- Attend each and every class on time, RESTED, and ready to participate and
learn. Coming to class tired will hinder learning.
- Do your homework faithfully and thoroughly, in a quiet, relaxed location
so you can devote your time to your studies exclusively.
- Read your textbook carefully.
- Review your class notes after every class and recopy them accurately into
a notebook.
- Pay attention in the class. Again, coming to class tired obstruct
learning.
- Do homework(s) in groups (ONLY if this method works for you), and discuss
the problems until you understand each one of them.
- Spend 5-10 minutes each night going over the material covered in the
latest lecture.
- Contact me if things are not going well and do so WELL BEFORE the exams.
If you wish to do better
- Commit things to memory when rested.
- Participate in short study sessions rather than long
ones.
- Eat well, and supplement your diet with vitamins (C,
B-1, B-3, B-6, B-12, Lecithin,Tyrosine).
- Use ACRONYMS (i.e., NASA).
- Use Rhyming (30 days hath…).
- Link things (Think up a story).
- Use association (The sillier the better).
- Use active study techniques (Think up Questions &
Answers).
- Use study groups.
- Study in bright light.
- Study in a place were you will have unbroken
concentration.
If you wish to fail in this course
- Don’t bother showing up
- Try to miss as many classes as possible.
- Try your very best to arrive late.
- If you do come on time- don’t forget to leave early
(this is very important!).
- If any of 1, 2, 3, or 4 does not work (because of
parent/teacher bitching), then make sure you sleep or doodle during the
classes you attend.
- Try to study for this course while watching TV. If
you really wanted to do very bad, make sure your favorite show is on the TV.
- Relaxing while you study.
- Eating while you study.
- Try not to recopy notes. (If by accident you took some
notes in the class.)
- Try to study with someone while they are talking about
other things.
- Cramming always works.
- Don’t even think about reading the textbook.
- Try your very best not to recall previous lecture
and/or notes. Recalling lecture/notes surely gets you in trouble and you
might pass the course.
- Don't waste time trying to understand a problem --
just get the answers from the book or a fellow student, and move on to the
next one.
- Be cool -- never show ignorance by asking questions
(you might learn something and you don’t want to do that)
And finally, here is the rule that never fails you to fail not only my course but any course anywhere.
Study really really hard twice per semester: the night before the midterm,
and the night before the final.
