4.0     Candidate Pedagogy

 

Candidates acquire and demonstrate the dispositions and skills needed

to integrate knowledge of English language arts, students, and teaching.

 

 

                

NCATE Standard 4.1

The candidate has understood the purposes and characteristics of different kinds of curricula and related teaching resources and selected or created instructional materials that are consistent with what is currently known about student learning in ELA.

 

     Artifact 1   "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" (Drama and Literature).

                   This lesson illustrations the use of (television drama) to teach dialogue concepts (literature).

 

 

NCATE Standard 4.2

The candidate has created literate classroom communities by presenting varied structures and techniques for group interactions by employing effective classroom management strategies and by providing students with opportunities for feedback and reflection.

     Artifact 2      Basic Discipline Plan.

                   I was advised by Professor Harry R. Noden to keep it simple.

 

 

 

NCATE Standard 4.3

The candidate has worked with teachers in other content areas to help students connect

important ideas, concepts, and skills within ELA with similar ones in other disciplines. 

 

     Artifact 3       7th Grade Science Project.

                   This is the project designed by the 7th grade English and Science teachers of Perry Middle   School that I participated in as a student teacher.

 

 

 

NCATE Standard 4.10

The candidate has integrated assessment consistently into instruction by establishing criteria and developing strategies for assessment that allow all students to understand what they know and can do in light of their instructional experiences.

       High School Newspaper Rubric.

                   This is a high school newspaper rubric that I designed.  I have enclosed the News Articles page rubric.  I designed this for a high school journalism class.

Lead is entertaining, it is not a summary.  It tells a little story in a descriptive manner.

2.  BODY:  _____/20 points

Body captures reader’s attention with colorful, picturesque use of words and sentence structure.  Is the story supported with statistics, interviews, or other quotes from authorities in the field in which this feature story is about?  Does is address the 5 W’s?

3.  ORGANIZATION:  _____/10 points

Does the story line flow?  Is the method of organization appropriate to the topic of the article?  Is the information presented in an orderly manner?

4.  CLOSING:  _____/10 points

Did you summarize the material presented in the article without including your opinion?

5.  CONVENTIONS:  _____/05 points

Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure are proper and appropriate tense for the article.

6.  RESEARCH:  _____/10 points

Where did your facts come from?  Can you back up your sources with where they were found (references and interviews)?
