The Cippus Funerary Altars Columbaria Miniature Columbaria Monument with Chamber Large Funerary Monuments
A Cippus is a small tombstone reminiscent of a modern tombstone. It often had design around the outside and a flat space for the inscription. The space is relatively small, however, so cippi do not allow for very large inscriptions. The urn (or sarcophagus) was placed in the ground beneath the cippus.
Inscription are purchased by size. The following are the sizes and examples of what the inscription might look like.
Cippi also frequently include portraits of the deceased. If you include a portrait or some image it would probably reduce the amount of space available for the inscription.
