Congratulations to PERL Labbie, Kathrine Shepherd for receiving a Francisco J. Varela Award from the Mind & Life Institute to help conduct a project entitled,“Examining the relationship of meditation experience to the neural correlates of spontaneous emotion regulation.“
Dr. Fresco, and his colleagues Dr. William Kalkhoff (Sociology) and Dr. Robert Clements (Biology) received a grant award to fund a postdoctoral fellow for two years for a project entitled, "Basic, translational and clinical aspects of normative and disordered biobehavioral functioning: An interdisciplinary consortium in the new Kent State Neuroimaging Laboratory."

Dr. Fresco participated in a panel discussion entitled, “Happiness and the Brain” on the Toronto-based television program, “The Agenda with Steve Paikin.” The discussion included coverage of affective neuroscience, the neural correlates of happiness and the benefits of Buddhist mental training exercises such as mindfulness meditation.
A paper, first authored by Nina Rytwinski, enititled, "Screening for social anxiety disorder with the self-report Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale," was just published in the journal, Depression and Anxiety. Congratulations Effie! An article, entitled, "Selective Publication of Antidepressant Trials and Its Influence on Apparent Efficacy," was just published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It's a study to which Effie contributed during her time at the Portland VAMC prior to starting graduate school at Kent State and joining the PERL lab.
