Writing in Psychology is a separate course.  Therefore, the student will receive two grades (one for Biopsychology and one for Writing Intensive).

The process of writing the paper will proceed through several stages, from learning how to do computerized literature searches, through topic selection, a first draft, and a final draft.  Students will receive feedback at several points throughout the semester on their progress.

Meetings:

There will be both group meetings (to go over general topics) and individual meetings (to go over individual progress on the assignments).  This requires that we all be flexible in order to find a time which can accommodate everyone in the group.

Requirements:

1.  Students must attend all meetings as scheduled.

 2.  Students must submit work that is their own.  Ideas which are not your own must be appropriately noted with citations.  Plagiarism is a serious violation of academic ethics and will not be tolerated.  Any case of plagiarism will be referred to the office of Judicial Affairs and will result, at a minimum, in an assigned grade of F for this course.

3.  The first and final draft of the paper must conform to the style as described in the fourth edition of The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.  All papers must be typed, double spaced, in a standard font (i.e., 12 pt Times New Roman or Arial), with 1" margins on all sides.

4.  The papers will be based upon at least 10 primary sources (i.e., journal articles consisting of original reports of empirical research).

5.  If only one draft of the paper is submitted, it will be considered to be the first draft.

6.  Students should keep an extra copy of their work on file.  Files should always be saved on disk in the event that the computer's hard drive crashes.  Do not save the only copy of your paper to your hard drive.

7.  When final drafts of the paper are submitted, photocopies of the articles cited in the paper and the corrected first draft must also be submitted.
