Topic:  Introduction to Programming Languages – Visual Basic

This course is best described as the beginning class in Information Technology to build a foundation in learning computer language programming concepts and the Visual Basic 6.0 program language

Goal: To select the appropriate programming language for a simple project and apply it in a project – Hello World.

Objectives:

Given a computer with Visual Basic installed and after completing the Web based Visual Basic Lesson I, Programming I students will be able to demonstrate knowledge, identify, apply, and know the purpose of the elements of the Visual Basic environment window and tool box to design form objects.

Using the Visual Basic program, given the project criteria worksheet, and working with a partner, Programming I students will design a working, user-friendly form for the “Hello World” project.

Purpose:  to be able to use a webquest to determine a software tool and to use the Visual Basic tools to create a Hello World project.

Target Audience: Programming I students on a high school level or a first year computer class for college.

Improve or add to instruction:

The webquest will provide a hands-on overview to the process of selecting a programming language that meets the needs of the desired outcome for a given problem.

This lesson incorporates hands-on learning using a Web site that was developed to reinforce the book lessons. Learning for this lesson requires visual and kinesthetic skills.

Students will work at their own pace through a web tutorial that introduces the Visual Basic window elements.  AT the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
