My State: Utah

Utah Basic Facts:

State Capitol: Salt Lake City

Nickname: Beehive State

Population: 2,817,222 (2011 est)

The name "Utah" comes from the Native American "Ute" tribe and means people of the mountains.

Why Utah?

Utah is home to many amazing national parks including Byrce Canyon and Arches. After traveling there last year, I have had an interest in what else there is to see within the state. With this project, I hope to make a list of new places to visit within the state!

Population Change in Utah

In researching basic information on Utah, I have found a couple websites that contain information on population change in Utah. Here are some of the websites I have found:

Census Scope
I like this website; it has a lot of information on various demographics and population change. However, they are only analyzing up to 2000.

Quick Facts from the Census Bureau
This is website uses the actual inform from the Census. It does go up through 2012 and you can select by county or city.

Utah Government
A decent site, it has projections population, employment, and age demographics.

U.S.A. [dot] com
Fantastic! Has a plethora of information for each county!

Negative Population Growth Organization
Eh, just okay. It has some information, but not a lot. Plus it is an organization, so mot sure how reliable it is…

Utah Population Data

Another objective of the class is to go and find the data ourself. Unlike in Into to GIS class where the data was handed to us, in the real world you have to find the data yourself. For a day or two, I combed the internet in search of population data since 1900 for Utah. After some frustrations, I finally found all the data I needed. Here are the links to where I found the data:

Decadal Population Data 1900 to 1990:
Document Title: Population of Counties by Decennial Census: 1900 to 1990
www.census.gov/population/cencounts/ut190090.txt

2000 and 2010 Census Data:
Document Title: Census Brief: Cities and Counties of Utah
