Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is that physical education should be taught in a way that focuses upon the well being of all children. By providing children with developmentally appropriate games and activities in which to participate, their self-confidence will rise, and their enjoyment for physical activity will transfer outside of the classroom. Each child is unique and has their own individual needs, and it is imperative to make sure that each child in my gymnasium is accommodated for appropriately and their needs are met. It is essential that each and every child feel welcome, comfortable, and excited to move in my environment.

Management Plan
Gymnasium Rules: · Respect yourself and others. Treat others as you would like to be treated. · Try everything · Follow directions even when the teacher is not looking · Help your classmates · Share what you learn with your friends and at home · Treat all equipment nicely · Have fun!
Rewards: · Class rewards—choice of favorite game, teacher helper, class negotiation of reward desired · Individual rewards- sport citizenship student of the week, good calls home
Consequences: · 3 strikes: three chances for desired behavior. At strike number 3, create a private behavior contract with student. After 3 additional strikes during class period, notify the parent.
Routines:
Entry: At the beginning of each unit, students will be divided into teams or groups. Each member of the group will have a job. · Athletic director- makes sure everyone in the group is listening to the teacher and showing good sport behavior. · Equipment Manager- retrieves equipment for everyone in group. Passes out “team uniform” to everyone in group. Collects equipment and “uniforms” and puts them back correctly. · Coach- makes sure everyone in group knows instructions for the activity and meets with the teacher when asked. · Athletic trainer- makes sure everyone in group is keeping personal space and reports any injuries to teacher immediately.
Start/Stop Signals: · Freeze- stop, look, equipment down, two scoots away, wait for instructions · “When I say “Go””- students will wait until the teacher allows them to begin activity
Debrief/Closure: · Students will be instructed to come to the center circle and sit criss-cross on the line.
Exit routine: · Students will put equipment back where it was taken from, line up and wait at the door until classroom teacher arrives.
Equipment Routine: · Equipment will be set up at students’ arrival. If additional equipment is needed, equipment managers for each team will make sure all group members are accommodated for. Their job also requires them to collect equipment and put it back as instructed.
